Toy “R” Us is running a program called the Great Trade-in Event which is similar to the cash for clunkers for cars. You bring in any old Stroller, Car Seat, High Chair, Playard, Bassinets, Crib or travel system and get 20% discount on the new item. The offer is for limited time from August 28, 2009 to September 20, 2009.

The following are the select brands that can be returned during this offer:

Babi Italia, Baby Caché, Baby Trend, Bertini, Britax, Chicco, Contours by Kolcraft, Cosco, Delta, Eddie Bauer, Evenflo, Graco, Jeep, Natures Purest by Summer Infant, Safety 1st, and Sorelle.

This is triggered by two factors, product recalls and the fact that items above may not be the best candidates to be passed on or resold due to safety concerns.

Best Starter DSLR Camera

August 24th, 2009 1 comment »

We’ve gone along time with point and shoot digital cameras.  These are great cameras – easy to use and generally take pretty darn good photos.  But now that we have kids, we’re thinking that we really need to take the next step up and make the plunge and step up to a DSLR camera.  The quality of the photos and the flexibility of taking different types of photos – portrait, zoom, and fast action sports in addition to candid photos make getting a DSLR a pretty high priority for us.   We’ve done alot of research and have narrowed it down to two great cameras:

1) Nikon D5000

2) Canon T1i

Both are at around $800, take very high quality photos, shoot video in HD, and have many quality lens available at a variety of price ranges.  We still haven’t made up our minds yet – Let us know if you have.  In the meantime, here’s a few links to some great review resources that we’ve used:

Pregnancy Hospital Checklist – What to pack for the Hospital

August 22nd, 2009 1 comment »

There are a lot of questions on the mommy to be’s mind about what to pack for the hospital. We have gathered below a list of things that you should pack before your 35/36th week to take along with you. We hope this list would not let you forget anything!

Paperwork

  • Birth Plan
  • Health Insurance Card

You should make sure you are pre-registered with the hospital. If you are, then you don’t require health insurance card or other paperwork.

For the Baby

  • Baby Book to record all the details!
  • Going Home outfit
  • Infant Car Seat – Get the car seat installed in your car. The hospital would not let you leave without it. Some babies come early, or have a very small head, so keep an extra receiving blanket to support her head in the car seat. You can also buy extra cushion for your car seat.
  • Receiving Blanket
  • Mittens – Hospitals don’t provide nail cutters to cut nails, and you don’t want your baby to scratch herself before she reaches home

checklist
Personal Care Items

  • Nursing Pillow
  • Extra pillows
  • Nursing Bra
  • Sanitary napkins
  • Toiletries – Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Hairbrush or comb, Body Wash, Shampoo, conditioner,
  • Slippers
  • Contacts / Glasses
  • Face cream
  • Body Lotion
  • Going home clothes – take your six months clothes as you won’t be able to fit into your pre-pregnancy clothes.

Digital / Electronic Items

  • Camera / Video Camera
  • Cell Phone
  • Cell Phone Charger
  • Watch with a seconds hand – to time contractions
  • iPod – if your labor is long, you can use it to sooth yourself with some music

For your husband / partner

  • Nightwear
  • Slippers
  • Change of clothes
  • Toothbrush
  • Cereal Bars or other snacking items
  • Reading material (books / magazines)
  • Ask him to carry some cash for vending machines, coffee, etc.

What do you get from the hospital?

Most of the hospitals provide diapers, wipes, alcohol swabs to clean umbilical chords, towels, labor clothes, Sanitary napkins and food. Depending upon the hospital, you will also find that some hospitals let you take away diapers, wipes and alcohol swabs with you so that you don’t have to run to a store as soon as you come home with a baby (especially for alcohol swabs).
