Best Starter DSLR Camera

We’ve gone along time with point and shoot digital cameras.  These are great cameras – easy to use and generally take pretty darn good photos.  But now that we have kids, we’re thinking that we really need to take the next step up and make the plunge and step up to a DSLR camera.  The quality of the photos and the flexibility of taking different types of photos – portrait, zoom, and fast action sports in addition to candid photos make getting a DSLR a pretty high priority for us.   We’ve done alot of research and have narrowed it down to two great cameras:

1) Nikon D5000

2) Canon T1i

Both are at around $800, take very high quality photos, shoot video in HD, and have many quality lens available at a variety of price ranges.  We still haven’t made up our minds yet – Let us know if you have.  In the meantime, here’s a few links to some great review resources that we’ve used:
